I find that with a little daily maintenance, it is easier to keep your home looking and feeling great. One of the best ways to stay on top of things is to create a cleaning routine that works for you and your family. Here are a few tasks that I like to do each day:
Make the bed– Making the bed first thing in the morning is a quick and easy way to make any room look neater and more put together. Plus there is something about having a made-up bed that instantly boosts my mood and makes me a more productive stay at home mom.
Wipe down surfaces– I always take a few moments each day to wipe down surfaces such as countertops, tables, and desks. This helps to keep dust and dirt from piling up and makes it easier to maintain a clean and tidy space.
Sweep or vacuum floors– Keeping your floors clean is essential for maintaining a clean home. Whether you have carpet, hardwood, or tile, a quick sweep or vacuum can help remove dirt and debris that can accumulate throughout the day.
Clean dishes– We never go to bed with dishes in the sink. Take a few minutes each day to wash or load the dishwasher to keep your kitchen clutter-free and your dishes clean and ready to use.
Tidy up clutter– If you’re anything like me, clutter makes you want to pull your hair out. It can quickly make a space feel messy and disorganized. Taking a few minutes each day to tidy up clutter can make a big difference in the overall cleanliness of your home. Put away items that are out of place and organize and declutter any items that may be scattered around. Keeping surfaces clear and clutter-free will help to create a clean and inviting space.

Weekly Cleaning Tasks
Vacuuming– Vacuuming is an essential weekly cleaning task that helps remove dirt, dust, and allergens from your carpets and floors. We love our Roomba for quick daily vacuums and rely on our Dyson for when we do a big vacuum at the end of each week.

Mopping– Whether it’s spills from my little ones or footprints from the family dog, the floors always seem to need a good cleaning. Mopping can be a bit tedious, so I like to turn on some music and make it a mini workout. It may not be the most glamorous task, but it’s definitely one that makes a big difference in my cleaning routine.
Dusting– Dusting is another important task that should be done every week. I like to use a microfiber cloth or a duster to remove dust from surfaces. I take one room every day so it only takes about 5 minutes. Don’t forget to dust hard-to-reach areas like ceiling fans and light fixtures…although if I’m being honest these probably don’t get dusted every single week.
Bathroom Cleaning– While it may not be the most enjoyable task on your list, keeping a clean bathroom is important for both hygiene and appearance. Whether you tackle it all at once or spread it out over a few days, a weekly deep clean should include scrubbing the toilet, sink, and shower, wiping down surfaces, and mopping the floor. Don’t forget to switch out the towels and empty the wastebasket for an extra fresh touch.
Kitchen Cleaning– While I do the dishes and wipe down the counter daily, I like to give the kitchen a deeper clean every week to maintain a hygienic and organized space. Some things I try to do are cleaning the sink and stovetop, and wiping down the appliances and cabinets. Don’t forget to also clean the floors and remove any expired or old food from the refrigerator and pantry.
Monthly Cleaning Tasks
Clean the oven– Cleaning the oven is an important monthly task to remove grease and food residue that can build up over time. Start by removing any loose debris from the oven, then apply a non-toxic oven cleaner and let it sit for the recommended amount of time. Scrub the oven surfaces with a sponge or scrub brush and rinse thoroughly.
Deep clean the kitchen– Once a month, it’s a good idea to give your kitchen a deep clean. This includes scrubbing the stove and oven, disinfecting countertops and cutting boards, and cleaning out the refrigerator and freezer. Don’t forget to also clean out the microwave and run the dishwasher with a cleaning agent to remove any built-up grime or residue.
Wash windows and curtains– Taking the time each month to wash your windows and curtains can make a big difference in the appearance of your home. Use a glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth to clean the windows, and wash your curtains according to their care instructions. This will help to remove any dust and dirt and keep your windows sparkling clean.
Vacuum and shampoo carpets– Regular vacuuming is important to keep your carpets looking and smelling fresh, but once a month it’s a good idea to go a step further and shampoo them. Rent a carpet cleaner or hire a professional to deep clean your carpets and remove any stains or odors. This will help to extend the life of your carpets and keep them looking their best.
