After working for the first 3 years of my motherhood journey, I took a step back from the classroom to stay home with our three young kids.
From chasing the kids around all day to managing household tasks, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. By the end of the day, you feel like you accomplished nothing.
That’s why having a routine that works for you and your family is so important. Not only will it help make sure everything gets done, but it will also provide structure for both parents and children alike.
Here are some tips on how to create the perfect stay at home mom routine so you can feel confident in tackling motherhood head-on!
As a stay at home mom, you wear many hats and juggle multiple responsibilities daily. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with all that you have to do.
But having a routine can be the key to becoming more organized, productive, and less stressed which will lead to improved mental well-being.
By establishing a set schedule for you and your family, you’re able to keep track of tasks and make sure all of the needs of your household are met without feeling frazzled.
Plus, when kids have routines in place it gives them a sense of predictability and security which leads to better behavior – something any parent would welcome!
What’s more, having a set routine as a stay at home mom also helps provide the structure which can prevent boredom and cultivate creativity.
Finally, having a well-thought and structured routine allows for more time for self-care while managing all of your duties as a stay at home parent.
Stay at home moms are true superheroes! Despite the lack of an official cape, everyday stay at home moms take on an array of challenges.
Moms are multitaskers like no other – think changing diapers in one hand and checking emails in the other, all while cooking dinner for their families.
They juggle between overseeing homework, grocery shopping, planning meals, and keeping their little ones entertained.
Stay at home moms somehow manage to check off every task on their never-ending to-do list while doing it all with a smile (most of the time!)
Stay at home moms also have to be budgeting wizards to make every dollar count when it comes to supporting their households financially.
On top of it all, stay at home moms must juggle emotional turmoil that would give even Wonder Woman a run for her money!
From carpools to PTA meetings and beyond, they do the work of ten all while juggling the needs of their households.
All for zero pay and little praise.
There’s no denying stay at home moms deserves a round of applause or two!
We all want to live a fulfilling life, and the key to achieving that is to prioritize what matters most.
Stay-at-home moms, in particular, know this well since their daily routine is packed with activities. From ensuring the kids are doing their homework, to fixing dinner for the family, time seems to fly by so fast that oftentimes we can’t even keep track of it.
However, by recognizing and valuing what’s important in our lives first and foremost, we can make sure that our time is being spent on those goals.
Make a list of what matters most and work that into your daily schedule first. For my personal schedule, I prioritize:
If you’re anything like me you have a million things running through your mind every day. Having a routine written down definitely helps to keep things on track.
Having your routine visible also provides a sense of accountability. If there are tasks I’m struggling to complete, like folding the laundry or making dinner, seeing my routine staring back at me helps me stay on track!
I suggest keeping it in a place where you will always see it – even if that means tacking up your daily schedule next to the morning coffee pot or on your nightstand in full view before going to bed.
Stay organized, stay sane!
Time blocking is a fantastic way to stay on track and organized! Scheduling out your days in small chunks of time – like a mini agenda – will help you to prioritize which tasks should come first, set goals for the day and make sure you allot necessary time for yourself too.
I personally have my daytime blocked into groups such as morning, work, afternoon, and evening. Within each block, I have set habits and routines.
Time blocking helps you to clearly see your priorities, instead of scrambling around trying to get everything done at once. It can help turn any hectic stay at home mom routine into an incredibly manageable one.
Once you have your time blocks established creating routines within each block can help keep things on track and make it easier to stay organized.
By having a plan for each hour, you’ll be able to get more done because you will know what to focus on. It might take some trial and error at first, but having a routine makes my days feel much more manageable!

Having a planner system you love is essential to success for all moms. Knowing how to plan ahead can make a big difference in sanity preservation!
Finding the right planning system is important – you want a system that works for YOU. You don’t need something fancy or expensive. Even a plain notebook or digital calendar would work.
I personally use a combo of Google calendar for long-term planning and my Erin Condren Daily Duo to list out our day-to-day tasks, to-dos, and meals.

We all know moms have a million things on their to-do lists. It’s hard to know where to start and can get overwhelming very quickly.
Creating goals each day with a top 3 list it can make your never-ending to-dos a little more manageable. Pick three tasks you want to accomplish that day, whether they are household-related or more personal ones like reading for an hour or calling an old friend.
Not only will this give you something productive to focus on for the day, but it will also allow for some self-awarding at night time when you’ve completed at least three big things!
Sounds like mama deserves a mini pat on the back and maybe a bubble bath!
For all you stay-at-home moms out there (or any parent, really), it can seem impossible to get up early. But trust me, getting up before your kids can work wonders to set your days up for success!
Depending on your season of motherhood this may not be realistic. However, once those babies start sleeping through the night, try to establish an early morning routine that is just for you.
I personally like to get up 30-45 minutes before my kids so I have some quiet time to read, pray and focus before the hectic day begins.
With a healthy start to the day, you’ll have plenty of energy to tackle whatever comes your way. You may even find time for yourself. So dare to be different and give those alarm clocks some love -you won’t regret it.
Being aware of your most productive period can really help you get the most out of each day. Think about the time of day when you have the most time and energy.
For early risers, this may be before the sun comes up. Night owls may be most productive after these kids are sleeping. If all of your kids are in school, it may be in the middle of the day.
Figure out what your most productive times are during the day and take full advantage of them. That way you will be able to get through more tasks in less time.
As a stay at home mom, you’ll quickly learn the importance of allowing for extra time. Whether it’s preparing dinner, taking your kids to school, or just getting chores done, things often take longer than you think.
Without the extra moments allotted for each item on your daily agenda, you’ll be stuck in an ongoing cycle of catching up. So make sure to carve out some flexible room in your routine – you’ll be glad you did!
Do you sometimes feel like you are bouncing from one task to another and never truly finishing anything? You may want to try to theme your days so you only have one big focus each day.
Monday might be reserved for cleaning your house. Try to schedule all of your appointments on Tuesday. Wednesday could be dedicated to running errands while Thursday is for meal planning and grocery shopping.
Alternatively, you could have your days set up where you hit certain “zones” during allotted blocks of time. For example, I have a 15-minute block in the morning dedicated to cleaning.
I tackle a different area (or zone) each day. This helps to break up the cleaning process. But it also ensures the entire house gets cleaned at least once a week.

Here is a detailed breakdown of my current routine. Keep in mind that it is ever-evolving to fit our season of life.
5:20-6:00: Miracle Morning Routine- I wake up before the kids to read my devotional and favorite self help books for moms, journal, and take some time for myself. I have also been starting to meditate which I am actually enjoying. My goal is to eventually move my wake-up time up some and also get in a quick workout.
6:00-6:45: Wake the kid up, have breakfast, and get them dressed. I also unload the dishwasher during this time.
6:45: Jason leaves for the day and brings Grayson to school
6:45-8:00: This is when I try to get a little housework done in between playing with Audrey and Gabe. Each day I wash and fold one load of laundry and clean the zone of the day. I also try to tackle my daily 3 for the day at this time.
8:00-9:00: Get ready for the day, make beds, and make Audrey’s lunch.
9:00: Bring Audrey to School
9:30-1:30: This is when I’m home with just Gabe. I juggle spending time with him with getting work done for the blog and other projects I have going on. Gabe takes a nap at some point and we also eat lunch.
1:30-3:30: Carpool- I spend 3 hours picking both Audrey and Grayson up from school. I bring toys and snacks for the kids to have in the car and I try to get my bible study in while waiting in the carpool line.
3:30-4:30: Time with the kids
4:30-5:00: Dinner Prep- the kids play or watch tv while I get dinner started.
5:00-6:00: Time with kids
6:00-6:30: Dinner- we try really hard to sit down and eat as a family with no phones around and the TV off.
6:30-6:45: Jason and I divide and conquer at this time. One of us will clean the kitchen while the other one bathes the kids and gets them ready for bed.
6:45-7:30: Family Time
7:30: Bedtime for the kids. We read books, say prayers, and put them to bed
7:30-9:30: Me Time- I’ll take a bath, spend time with Jason, and catch up on more work.
9:30-10:00: Read
10:00: Light’s Out
When life throws you a curveball, what do you do? Instead of fretting and stressing over unexpected change, why not take it all in stride? If plans don’t turn out the way you intended, give yourself permission to laugh it off, move on, and create a new plan.
Trying to control every detail will only lead to stress—and who has time for that? Keep in mind that if things don’t work out immediately, chances are there’s going to be an even better outcome further down the line.
For the stay at home mom, every day can look a little different and that’s okay. From running errands to playing make-believe with the kids, there’s usually something that keeps us on our toes!
Even if it sometimes feels like nothing has changed over the week, each day still presents its own opportunity for growth, whether through laughter or learning moments.
All-in-all, life as a stay-at-home mom is certainly never boring! But it can still be productive with an effective routine.

If there’s one thing that I’ve learned as a stay-at-home mom, it is that you can’t do it all. Meal prepping, laundry folding, and managing the household chaos can really take it out of you!
Trying to do too much and pushing yourself can leave you feeling overwhelmed! It will also lead to burnout.
There’s a time for taking it easy, kicking your feet up, and knowing when to say “enough”.
If you’re struggling with getting it all done each day, try taking some shortcuts. Delegate tasks to free your mind. Relying on people around you for help is key – ask friends and family members or even hire a service if it fits within your budget.
Remember that having balance in your routine is key to achieving happiness. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
Acknowledging more realistic expectations will take away the guilt and will allow some headspace that was otherwise filled with stress.
Finally, be sure to remember that your stay at home mom routine is for YOU!
Your routine is your own, so don’t waste energy comparing yourself or your progress to anyone else’s.
There will always be someone who appears to have a busier day than you. That doesn’t necessarily mean they are getting more done though; in fact, it might be the exact opposite.
It doesn’t matter what Suzzie on Instagram is doing. Who cares if Debbie wakes up at 5 a.m. or if Karen tells you a good routine must include a workout.
Your routine is your own, and there are only twenty-four hours in the day – so make it work for you.
