How is it possible that my baby boy will be TWO in less than two weeks?! Since I didn’t have this blog for Grayson’s first birthday, I wanted to make a throwback post sharing all of the cute decor and DIY projects I did to prepare. It was an LSU themed party for our Little Tiger, so I figure there is no better time to post than today when our team is about to play its biggest game of the season vs Alabama. This blog also serves as as digital scrapbook for our family, so it will be great for Grayson to look back on one day.
Since Grayson was born in the middle of an LSU game, it was only fitting that we made his monthly milestone pictures LSU themed. To keep it going, I planned an LSU party for his 1st Birthday. I had a blast searching Pinterest, crafting and preparing for his party and everything came out so cute!
My idea for the party was to make it feel like an LSU tailgate with the food, games and fun! In the front of our house we put up a huge blow up tiger, which I was lucky enough to borrow from one of my good friends. I hung LSU wreaths on the door that my mom had made for the party…I now have them to use year after year during football season! When you walked in to our house, I decorated the foyer table with beads, purple and gold shakers, a stuffed tiger and lots of pictures of our Grayson. I also had party favors, which consisted of gold hand clappers, goldfish and some beads.
Our fireplace was decorated with huge letters that spelled “ONE” which I found at Hobby Lobby and painted purple and gold. I made a DIY banner with Grayson’s monthly milestone pictures (all in a different LSU outfits) and hung that from the mantle. This was probably my favorite decoration…it truly is amazing to see how much babies change in their first year of life! I found a shop on Etsy to make one of those adorable “All About Me” posters displaying all of Grayson’s stats at his one year mark!
I decorated the cake table and Grayson’s highchair with banners that I made and other LSU decor that I got from my mom (of course!) We got the cakes from Ambrosia Bakery in Baton Rouge (they are the BEST) and both came out so cute! Grayson sure did LOVE his smash cake. I have been collecting LSU ornaments since I was in college over 15 years ago, so I also put up an LSU tree to display them all!
In the backyard we put the food, snacks and games! I tired to serve food that you would find at a football game…jambalaya (made by my dad), nachos, hotdogs and chili. For snacks we had peanuts, pickles, purple and yellow cotton candy, chips and cracker jacks! We set up a tiger bounce house for the kids, corn hole and a football toss game (proudly made by my hubby!)
Even though LSU actually lost to A&M (after 7 overtimes and some pretty bad calls), the day was absolutely magical! Seeing the excitement on Grayson’s face and watching him have so much fun was worth all the hard work and planning! The best thing about the theme we chose is that 90% of the decorations were things either my mom or I already had! Being born and raised a tiger fan sure has its perks, and I can’t wait to raise my kids with the same passion for LSU that we have! #foreverLSU
