One of my favorite Christmas traditions that we started a few years back when Alex was younger is a Christmas Eve box. This is the one present under the tree that the kids are allowed to open on Christmas Eve because it is filled with fun things to do as a family on the night before Christmas! Keep reading to see some of my favorite items to include in the box.
Matching Christmas Pajamas
Every year I buy our family a set of matching Christmas jammies. This is one of my favorite holiday traditions and always makes for the cutest pictures. This year I got them on major sale from JC Penny, but I’ve also gotten pajamas from Amazon, Target and Kohls in the past. We wear them on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning while opening our gifts together.
Another item I always love to include in the box is some type of Christmas book. This year I am put in the “Once Upon a Starry Night” This is a great way to add to your Christmas book collection so you can have plenty of books to chose from as the kids get older.
I used to actually buy a DVD of a Christmas movie to put in the box, but at this point we own pretty much all of them! Also, between Netflix and Hulu we can easily access anything Christmas we want to watch. This year I put a movie ticket stub in the box. Although Alex may be the only one that will stay up for the movie, it is still so much fun to have a movie night before Santa comes!
This item is more for Alex, Jason and me (Grayson may like it too though!) Cuddling up on the couch with a warm cup of hot chocolate is my perfect idea of a cozy Christmas Eve!
Another tradition we have is to get a new ornament each year for our tree. My mom has collected #christopherradko ornaments for me for years, so I love to pick out a dated one to add to my collection and hang on the tree each year.
I’m adding this item to the box for the first time this year. Reindeer food is simply oats and glitter mixed together in a small bag with a cute note. The kids can sprinkle the reindeer food in the grass on Christmas Eve and on Christmas morning they awake to find the food has been eaten by Santa’s reindeer! This is sure to be a hit this year with Grayson!
Do you have any fun Christmas Eve traditions for your family? I’d love to hear all about them!
