One of my favorite Christmas traditions that we started when Alex was younger is a Christmas Eve box. This is the one present under the tree the kids are allowed to open on Christmas Eve because it is filled with fun things to do as a family that night!
Today I’m sharing some of my favorite items to include in the box.

Matching Christmas Pajamas
Every year I buy our family a set of matching Christmas jammies. This is one of my favorite holiday traditions and always makes for the cutest pictures. Here are my favorite places to buy Christmas pajamas. We wear them on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning while opening our gifts together.
Christmas Book
Another item I always love to include in the box is a Christmas book. This year I put in the “Once Upon a Starry Night.” This is a great way to add to your Christmas book collection each year. Here are a few other Christmas books we love.
Christmas Movie
I used to buy a DVD of a Christmas movie to put in the box each year. At this point, we own pretty much all of them! Also, between Netflix and Hulu we can easily access anything Christmas we want to watch.
This year I put a movie ticket stub in the box. Although Alex may be the only one that will stay up for the movie, it is still so much fun. We put the younger kids to bed and have a movie night before Santa comes!
Hot Chocolate
This item is more for Alex, Jason and me (Grayson may like it too though!) Cuddling up on the couch with a warm cup of hot chocolate is my perfect idea of a cozy Christmas Eve!
Ornament
Another tradition we have is to get a new ornament each year for our tree. My mom has collected Christopher Radko ornaments for me for years. I love to pick out a dated one to add to my collection and hang on the tree each year.
Reindeer Food
I’m adding this item to the box for the first time this year. Reindeer food is simply oats and glitter mixed together in a small bag with a cute note. The kids can sprinkle the reindeer food in the grass on Christmas Eve. On Christmas morning they awake to find the food has been eaten by Santa’s reindeer! This is sure to be a hit this year with Grayson!
