At Home Date Night Ideas

Date nights are really important to Jason and me, especially now that we have kids. It’s the few hours a week we get to be a couple and enjoy each other without having to worry about changing diapers or wiping dirty noses. We try to make them a priority and aim to have 2-3 date nights a month. Lately, getting out of the house for date night has been out of the questions because of the stay-at-home order. However, we are still figuring out ways to make date nights happen. You may be home because of quarantine, or maybe it’s just hard to get out because you have young kids or can’t find a sitter. Whatever the reason, you can still make date night happen! Here are 3 fun at-home date night ideas that you and your partner will love:

Game Night

One of our recent go-to date nights has been game night! Jason and I are both pretty competitive, so we love going head to head at basically anything. Our newest obsession is Jackbox Games. If you haven’t heard of this website, it’s a variety of trivia and party games that you can stream to your TV. Each player uses their phone to play along and select the answers. It is so much fun, especially because I’m usually the winner lol:) Other fun games that are good options for date night are Name That Tune, Heads Up, Scrabble and Battleship. I’ve also heard great things about Monopoly Deal, but have yet to try it.

Homemade Dinner and a Movie

Dinner and a movie is a go to date night for us, so recreating this at home is always so much fun. We both enjoy cooking, so instead of ordering takeout (which is nice too), we like to make a meal together. We feed the kids anything we have on hand and get them to bed early. We try to pick a meal that we don’t cook on a regular basis or something that we know the kids wouldn’t like. This requires a little planning in advance to make sure you have all the ingredients on hand. We open a bottle of wine and cook. It’s a great way to bond and talk with no distractions. After we eat dinner and clean up, we cozy up for a movie. Since it sometimes takes forever for us to agree on a movie, I suggest alternating who gets to pick.

Another great option for this date night that I’m dying to try is an at home food delivery service like Hello Fresh or Blue Apron. I think it would be so nice to have the box delivered to your door with everything you need to make your meal.

How Well Do You Know Your Spouse

Another idea that I have lined up for an upcoming at home date night is a “see how well you know your spouse” night. If you google this there will be numerous websites with fun and interesting question. I think it would be amusing to play it Newlywed Game style and take turns seeing how well we know each other. We can make it even more interesting by placing a wager…looser owes winner a massage, looser has to do the dishes for the week, etc.

Also, if you’ve never taken the 5 Love Languages test I highly recommend checking it out. Jason and I have taken it a few times in the years we’ve been together, and it’s always a great way to get to know your partner better. I highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t heard of it.

Hope you find some of these ideas helpful and that you try them out. At home date night’s don’t have to be complicated. The key is just spending time together minus the kiddos. So put them to bed early, pour yourself a drink and have some fun!
